This role requires natural curiosity and comfort working with large, complex datasets to uncover trends, identify billing anomalies, and drive product improvements. You'll transform raw billing data into actionable insights that shape product strategy for Apex's billing platform serving 20 million end customers. Key Responsibilities: Data Analysis & SQL Development: Write complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyze billing transaction data across multiple database systems Analyze large-scale datasets to identify patterns, anomalies, trends, and system performance issues Data Visualization & Reporting: Design and build interactive dashboards using Looker/PowerBI to visualize metrics, revenue trends, and product performance Create executive-level presentations translating complex data into clear, actionable insights for senior management Develop self-service reporting tools enabling product managers and operations to access billing metrics independently Present data-driven recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders including, product, finance, and engineering teams Product Development Support: Document data requirements for new features and enhancements Participate in user acceptance testing Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or related quantitative field 1-2 years of hands-on experience writing SQL for data analysis Proficiency with data visualization tools (Tableau, Looker, Power BI, or similar) Strong analytical skills with ability to translate complex data into actionable business insights Excellent communication skills with experience presenting technical findings to Preferred Qualifications: Experience in fintech, billing systems or financial services Exposure to Agile/Scrum product development environments Understanding of billing concepts (invoicing, payment processing, reconciliation, revenue recognition) Experience with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) Knowledge of JIRA and Confluence Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Analytical Skills: non-technical stakeholders Participate in user acceptance testing Strong SQL proficiency Statistical analysis and trend identification Critical thinking and curiosity Technical Skills: SQL: PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or similar RDBMS Data Visualization : Looker, Power BI, or Tableau Excel : Advanced functions and pivot tables Communication Skills: Translate technical findings into executive-level insights Build clear, compelling data visualizations Organizational Skills: Manage multiple concurrent analyses Prioritize based on business impact Meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy Technologies You'll Use: Core Tools: SQL (via Google Cloud SQL) Looker or Power BI Excel/Google Sheets Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Ecosystem: BigQuery for data warehousing and large-scale analytics Cloud SQL for transactional billing data Looker for data visualization and business intelligence Google Cloud Storage for data exports and file sharing AI/Productivity Tools: Claude AI for SQL query assistance, data analysis support, and documentation Automated workflows for routine reporting tasks Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required of the employee for this job.
