Engineering operations shift lead, data center engineering operations

About the Role

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that keep customers’ services running smoothly.

The successful candidate will oversee the operation and maintenance of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure for Data Centers (DC) in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud regions. In addition to technical operations and maintenance, the candidate will oversee facility operations and ensure implementation of safety procedures.

The role requires a motivated, self‑managed individual who demonstrates initiative, proactively seeks solutions, and strives for operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow and maintain the highest safety standards, encourage a world‑class safety culture, and ensure remediation of safety risks.
• Operate and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment such as UPS, switchgear, circuit breakers, ATS, diesel generators, chillers, HVAC, exhaust fans, VFDs, and transformers.
• Troubleshoot events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
• Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds and log‑taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.).
• Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance.
• Manually handle and lift equipment as required.
• Work shifts (morning, late, and night) and participate in an on‑call rotation for off‑duty emergency calls.

Basic Qualifications

• City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
• Knowledge and experience of mechanical systems (HVAC, controls) or key electrical competencies and theory.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of data center engineering operations experience.
