What you'll bedoing:
You will conductradiological safety assessments and evaluate radiation damage risksto onboard electronics. Your role involves developing radiationdetection systems and managing the systems engineeringdesign of secondary shielding. Utilising point kernel and MonteCarlo calculations, you will support radiation transport modellingand provide technical guidance on design changes or defects tomaintain safety standards. Additionally, you will develop ALARPjustifications to support engineering decisions, ensuring allradiological risks are minimised to compliant and acceptablelevels.
Coreduties:
* You'll hold adegree in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, NuclearScience, or a related field
* You'll possessdemonstrable knowledge/experience of radiation physics, nuclearengineering, nuclear safety or similar
* You'llhave knowledge/experience of Radiological safety assessments, ALARPjustifications or similar
* You'll utilise yourknowledge/experience of radiation transport methods(ATTILLA/MCBEND/MCNP etc.)
The Radiation Physics & Shieldingteam:
Our team designs andvalidates radiation shielding for the UK's nuclear submarine fleetacross three major programmes. We handle shield design, buildassessments, metrology, and safety studies, while developing noveldetectors and electronics capability. We offer relocation supportpackages across all Submarines roles, subject to meetingeligibility criteria.
