Were looking for a proactive and dedicated Legal Assistant to join our expanding Legal Services team. This is an exciting new role created at a pivotal time, as new housing legislation comes into effect (Awaabs Law), and our work continues to grow.
Youll be focusing on disrepair cases — an area thats evolving rapidly. As part of the team, youll play an important role in supporting our in-house legal service, focusing on property disrepair claims and housing management litigation. Youll help ensure that legal matters are handled efficiently, accurately, and in line with the relevant timescales.
Working closely with colleagues, external solicitors, surveyors, contractors, and other partners, youll help manage cases and coordinate information to ensure that all claims are dealt with professionally and fairly.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build their legal career within a supportive, forward-thinking housing organisation, where your work will have a real impact on customers and communities.
Youll have plenty of opportunities to learn and develop, with access to ongoing training and support — including the chance to pursue legal qualifications or specialist housing law development.
About You
Youll be highly organised, proactive, and detail-oriented, able to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines. Youll have a logical approach to problem-solving and be confident analysing information to support fair, evidence-based decisions. Youll have the ability to cross reference information to pull out details which will influence decision making.
Youll need to be comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively, with a flexible approach and the confidence to make sound judgments when required.
* Experience in a legal environment - ideally within housing, local authority, or private practice.
* Strong organisational and decision-making skills with the ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously.
* Excellent written communication and ability to interpret and cross-reference complex information.
* Five GCSEs (A-C / 9-4) including Maths and English (or equivalent).
* A genuine interest in social housing, legal work, and helping to improve outcomes for customers.
Youll be working primarily from home, with travel required for team meetings (usually monthly in Birmingham or Worcester) and occasional court observation for development.
