Substance Misuse Recovery Worker (Part Time)
We have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to join the team at HMP Preston, a busy Category B prison for males in Preston city centre. Join the Recovery Team and empower those who wish to make changes in their behaviour to promote health and well‑being through recovery from drugs and alcohol. This is a crucial role within the healthcare team, making a real difference to patients and delivering outstanding care.
Hours: Part‑time, 30 hours per week. 4 days per week between Monday and Friday, 8:00–16:00 / 9:00–17:00.
Salary: £29,264 – £33,510 FTE, dependent on experience, pro‑rated to 30 hours.

Conditions: Candidates must have a legal right to work in the UK; due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.
Main duties of the job:
* Manage a caseload of around 30 psychosocial patients with varying needs, including substance misuse, mental health, and trauma.
* Work with receptions for new patients, triage and carry out assessments.
* Deliver group sessions on overdose awareness, harm reduction, motivation to change, relapse prevention and wellbeing.
* Deliver SMART sessions, Narcotics Anonymous, Inside Out, and other interventions.
* Provide comprehensive assessments, including SMART Recovery.
* Provide information and advice on substance misuse, alcohol, smoking cessation, blood‑borne viruses, and safe sex practices.
* Prepare patients for release and transfer.

Requirements and experience (key points)
* Experience within substance misuse, ideally in a prison or secure environment, and ideally in a Recovery Worker or Practitioner role.
* Experience of working within the substance misuse multi‑disciplinary framework, including housing, social care, health care and mental health pathways.
* Experience managing a caseload.
* A flexible approach and excellent communication skills.
