Role Responsibility An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to join our Short Term Pathways Team. We are offering an excellent opportunity to join a friendly, dynamic and supportive team which promotes professional development. This post covers the East Kent area to support the hospital discharge pathway. Our team work collaboratively with health and other partnership agencies and focuses on promoting a person’s independence. We are looking for motivated, experienced professionals interested in working within the Short Term Pathways, and keen to work with Acute and Community Hospitals. The successful applicants will be required to be flexible in their approach and committed to working in an integrated team and ready to embrace new ways of working, to help further shape our services As an Occupational Therapist within the Short Term Pathways Team, you will be working with people over the age of 18 with a wide range of needs, you will manage a caseload requiring assessment, review and on-going support to make a real difference in achieving improved outcomes and leading to independent living for the service user. Our team in Short Term Pathways is creative, energetic, dynamic, and diverse. The team are proud of the high standard of service we provide to our customers at their most vulnerable times. The successful applicants should have previous experience of Adult Social Care or working in community settings, with an awareness of enablement, adaptations and specialist equipment and be able to use these interchangeably to have a substantial impact to the person’s life. Robust Moving and Handling skills are essential to help maximise independence, using alternatives to traditional double handed care approaches. We are dedicated to delivering strong support for our staff offering a robust supervision, CPD and development programme to support you in your role and professional development. You should have a proven ability to facilitate proportional, functional, holistic assessments and be passionate about maximising independence, building confidence and achieving best outcomes for people, working in a person-centred way. You will need to have good communication and IT skills and be able to work under pressure to prioritise work and manage your time effectively. The ability to travel across a wide geographical area in a timely and flexible manner at various times of the day is essential. You should note that public transport is rarely a viable option as some rural areas of Kent often have limited public transport. Kent County Council is committed to flexible and hybrid working opportunities and although we complete our assessments and interventions within a person’s own residence or short-term assessment bed setting, our Occupational Therapists work their non-clinical time between an office base and / or their home. Kent County Council is also committed to ensuring that it is increasingly accessible to the public outside of traditional office hours and although Occupational Therapists are not working on a rota basis to deliver a service seven days per week, this may be required in the future. This role is subject to holding a Full UK Driving Licence – The Council is committed to making reasonable adjustments so whilst this job requires the jobholder to drive your application will still be considered if you are unable to drive due to a disability. We are committed to service user and carer involvement and seek to involve service users and carers in our recruitment processes. This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and registration as a qualified Occupational Therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council. This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification. Face to Face interviews will be held on Friday 8 th August 2025.
