The role
The Senior Journals Development Editor is responsible for the successful performance and management of key Policy Press and Bristol University Press journals in line with existing wider strategies. You will commission content from academics and practitioners, carry out marketing research and outreach virtually and in person as well as detailed analysis of a wide range of data.
What will you be doing?
You will manage a list of journals with tasks including: commissioning; journal performance and planning; content delivery and devising and implementing business development plans.
Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with authors, Editors, Editorial Board members and other stakeholders and provide expert advice and support is key to the role.
You will need to gather and collate information from a variety of sources (editorial, marketing and sales reporting tools) and write reports and presentations for external Journal Boards, analysing data and reporting patterns, trends and highlights. Other tasks include drawing up confidential new journal contracts, business case reports and policies, carrying out marketing campaigns for own journals and monitoring budgets.
Another important aspect of the role is to identity funding opportunities to support open access publishing and equitable publishing practices.
You should apply if
We are looking for someone with extensive experience of managing a list of academic journals and of supporting the commissioning and launching of new journals to join our friendly team. You will have specialist knowledge of journal publishing processes and systems, ethical issues, open access publishing and fund-raising for publishing initiatives. Self-motivated, with excellent communication skills, you will be used to taking the initiative and solving problems on a day-to-day basis.
