Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Manchester

Salary: £60,000 – £80,000 (depending on experience)

Package: Car allowance, mileage, pension, holidays, bonus scheme, training and development

The Opportunity

A reputable Northwest main contractor specialising in commercial fit-out, refurbishment and M&E works is looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor to strengthen its commercial team.

The business operates across the office, education and wider commercial sectors, delivering Cat A and Cat B fit-out projects ranging from £500,000 up to £6.5m. With a strong pipeline of work and a commitment to quality delivery, this role offers long-term career progression and the opportunity to take commercial ownership of multiple projects across the region.

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior QS seeking a stable, forward-thinking business with autonomy and responsibility in their role.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the commercial management of projects from initial tender through to final account.
Prepare, review and manage project budgets, cost plans and cash flow forecasts.
Procure subcontractors and suppliers, including preparation of tender packages and evaluation of returns.
Negotiate, agree and administer contracts in line with company procedures.
Manage valuations, applications for payment, variations and change control processes.
Produce accurate monthly cost reports and update forecast final accounts.
Monitor commercial risks and opportunities, implementing actions to protect project margins.
Undertake site visits to verify progress, assess subcontractor performance and support cost assurance.
Work collaboratively with project managers, site teams and the senior leadership team to ensure successful delivery.
Provide mentoring, guidance and support to junior members of the commercial team where required.
Maintain strong communication with clients, consultants and supply chain partners to uphold the company’s reputation.

Requirements

Proven experience operating as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within construction, fit out or refurbishment.
Strong technical knowledge of commercial processes, contract administration and cost management.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Confident communicator with strong negotiation and client-facing skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Construction related degree or equivalent professional experience.
Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel to sites across the Northwest.
