Job Summary
To carry out ultrasound examinations in line with BMUS guidelines and professional competence, prioritise and organise own caseload, work independently within department protocols and make informed clinical decisions, and produce comprehensive diagnostic reports for each examination. The post holder(s) are accountable for professional actions and may have supervision responsibilities.
Responsibilities
* Carry out ultrasound examinations in line with BMUS guidelines and professional competence
* Prioritise and organise own caseload
* Work independently within department protocols and make informed clinical decisions, seeking a second opinion when required
* Produce comprehensive diagnostic reports for each examination and return them to the referring clinician
* Accountable for own professional actions, including reporting, and exercise supervisory responsibilities
Qualifications
* NHS‑experienced sonographer skilled in general abdominal and gynaecological scanning
* Experience in small parts, lumps and bumps, and vascular scanning (DVT) considered advantageous
* High level of competence aligned to NHS pathways, NICE and BMUS guidelines
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to work independently and autonomously
CPD is supported, and the post holder will participate in regular peer review meetings and audit feedback.
