Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Traffic Operator to join our UK container haulage team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in planning and managing container transport operations, ensuring deliveries are completed safely, on time, and in compliance with industry regulations. This position requires strong organisational skills, the ability to work under pressure, and effective communication with drivers, customers, and port authorities.
Duties
* Plan, allocate, and oversee container haulage jobs to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
* Manage drivers' schedules and routes while ensuring compliance with drivers' hours, Working Time Directive, and all UK road transport legislation.
* Liaise with ports, depots, and customers to coordinate container collections and deliveries.
* Monitor and respond to live traffic, port delays, and customer changes, adapting plans accordingly.
* Ensure all vehicles, trailers, and equipment are compliant with safety standards and regularly maintained.
* Keep accurate records of jobs, delays, incidents, and compliance checks for reporting and auditing purposes.
* Support drivers by providing clear instructions, guidance, and problem-solving assistance when required.
* Assist with the induction and training of new staff on haulage procedures and compliance requirements.
Qualifications
* Proven experience in traffic planning or transport operations within the UK container haulage sector is preferred.
* Strong understanding of road transport regulations, including drivers' hours and tachograph rules.
* Experience working with container ports, depots, and VBS (Vehicle Booking Systems) is highly advantageous.
* Excellent organisational and communication skills to liaise effectively with drivers, customers, and external stakeholders.
* Proficient in using transport management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
* Valid UK driving licence is essential (HGV licence desirable but not essential).
* Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing circumstances, and resolve issues quickly.
* A proactive, hands-on approach to operational challenges.
