To assist in the management and education of children and young people with additional support needs (ASN).
A Learning Support Worker may be asked to work with any child or group of children within a department or a mainstream class. They may work alongside and with specific guidance from any teacher within a school. Work around an individual child may be based on an individualised education programme, which all staff working with the child/young person follow, potentially involving collaboration with professionals and therapists such as Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Child Psychologists.

Mid Yell Junior High School, a non-denominational school located in Mid Yell, Yell, offers nursery, primary, and secondary education up to S4 for children from Central, Mid, and East Yell (Primary) and the entire island of Yell (Secondary). The school comprises 1 nursery class, 2 composite primary classes, and a class for each of the S1-4 years, with approximately 90 pupils enrolled. Managed by a Head Teacher and a Depute Head Teacher, the staff includes 16 teachers supported by additional support staff as needed. The current Head Teacher is Mr. Mark Lawson. * Please note that this job is not Career Graded. Successful candidates will be employed as either a Qualified or Unqualified Learning Support Worker. During the selection process, candidates will be assessed against the person specification to determine the appropriate role, which will influence salary, pay rate, and duties. The Job Profile documents at the end of this advertisement provide more detailed descriptions of the qualified and unqualified roles.
* The pay rate includes a Distant Islands Allowance of £1.4808 per hour.
* This is a temporary part-time post for 27.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, plus 6.24 weeks (pro rata) paid holiday during school holidays. The contract is valid until 16 August 2026.
* Preferred candidates will need to join or update their membership in the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme before a formal offer of employment.
* This vacancy does not meet UK visa sponsorship requirements; applicants must not require sponsorship.
* No relocation package is available for this post.
