Job Summary
Consultant in Elderly Care – Acute and Community Frailty – East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust – Eastbourne District General Hospital. Seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant to join the Acute Frailty Team. Contribute to integrated acute and community frailty services and support high‑quality care for older people across East Sussex.
Key Duties
* Provide consultant leadership in frailty assessment across the emergency department, clinical decision unit, acute medical unit, inpatient wards and the virtual frailty ward.
* Support community‑based assessments and collaborate with discharge teams and community services to facilitate safe transitions from hospital to home.
* Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and board rounds.
* Deliver outpatient clinics aligned with specialist interests.
* Support development of surgical liaison services for frail surgical patients.
* Assess patients referred from other specialties and contribute to service‑improvement initiatives across the frailty pathway.
* Participate in the General Internal Medicine on‑call rota and contribute to teaching, clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities within the department.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications, Higher Qualifications & Registration:
* MB BS or equivalent
* Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians
* Full Registration with GMC with a licence to practice
Desirable Qualifications:
* MD or equivalent
Essential Training & Experience:
* Wide experience in all aspects of General (Internal) Medicine and Stroke Medicine
Desirable Training & Experience:
* Experience in other relevant medical specialities
* Completion of courses relevant to Stroke Medicine and Care of the Elderly
* Ability to develop a subspecialty interest within Stroke Medicine
Essential Administration & Management:
* Evidence of participation in management
* Understanding of recent initiatives and changes, including Clinical Governance and Appraisal
Desirable Administration & Management:
* Management course and/or qualifications
* Knowledge of the structure of Health Service
Essential Audit, Research & Publications:
* Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit
* Understanding of the role of research
Desirable Audit, Research & Publications:
* Completion and/or publication of audit projects
* Experience of clinical research culminating in presentation and publication of original studies, review articles and related scholarly work
* Ability to lead clinical research projects
