About the role
As a STEM Category Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how UCL invests in its world-leading research environments. You will develop and deliver category strategies that ensure laboratories, researchers and technical teams have access to the equipment, consumables and supplier partnerships they depend on.
Operating as a senior member of the Commercial team, you will lead strategic sourcing activity, complex negotiations and supplier relationship management across a defined portfolio. You will work closely with Faculties, researchers and senior stakeholders to translate technical requirements into commercially robust solutions, balancing value, compliance and long-term sustainability .
This is a high-impact role with visible outcomes across the university — from enabling cutting-edge scientific research to strengthening supply resilience and driving continuous improvement in how we operate.
About you
You are a commercially astute procurement professional with experience operating in complex, fast-paced environments. You bring strong strategic thinking, advanced negotiation skills and the ability to manage multiple high-value projects simultaneously.
You are confident working with senior stakeholders, including academics and technical specialists, and can translate complex requirements and data into clear, actionable commercial strategies. With strong financial and analytical capability, you use insight to identify opportunities, drive value and support effective decision-making .
Collaborative and adaptable in your approach, you are comfortable navigating ambiguity, influencing across a diverse organisation, and delivering results that make a tangible impact.
