Job Role: Engineering Project Leader
Client: Global FMCG Manufacturer, Category Market Leader in FMCG Manufacturing.
Reporting to: Head of Engineering.
Location: Regional, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire & Buckinghamshire areas.
Reward: £65-75k target plus £6-9k car benefit plus Bonus.
Onsite Monday‑Friday days based, some hybrid with travel.
Factory/Plant Process working environment.
Role Responsibilities
* Manage the planning and implementation of capital and revenue projects, covering factory equipment, process, packing lines, site services, process engineering, and construction design management.
* Drive line installations and BAU engineering projects.
* Plan, execute and lead project activities for feasibility studies, equipment specifications, supplier selections, equipment commissioning and validation within demanding time‑scales.
* Report directly to the Project Engineering Manager and have full autonomy to deliver pragmatic, value‑engineered projects to cost and time specifications.
* Coach, mentor, and develop multi‑functional teams of engineers and designers/contractors to ensure successful delivery.
* Act as Engineering Compliance Champion, ensuring all engineering activities meet industry standards.
* Lead engineering and production teams during equipment installation and start‑up, supplier selection, feasibility and justification analysis, and equipment commissioning.
* Liaise cross‑functionally to ascertain requirements and define project scopes.
* Prepare specifications/briefs for external suppliers for tender.
* Manage tender processes, including supplier selection exercises.
* Manage external suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.
* Lead, monitor and review projects internally across departments.
* Coordinate all contractors in accordance with company policies.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Mechanical or Electrical Engineering background, ideally in a regulated environment with high FMCG volume manufacturing.
* Experience developing technical engineering solutions in automated environments.
* Experienced Project Engineer from FMCG manufacturing, food preferred.
* Degree in Engineering or equivalent with additional project management qualifications.
* High level of IT literacy, ideally fully conversant with MS Project.
* Proven leadership and senior stakeholder management in a senior engineering management role within the manufacturing FMCG sector (Food, Drink, Pharma, consumer goods manufacturing).
* Mechanical/electrical qualification or equivalent, ideally a degree; chartership is an advantage.
* 5+ years of engineering leadership experience, with exposure to FMCG environments preferred.
* Excellent people‑leadership skills to motivate, lead and drive projects.
