Job Description:
Binnies is recruiting a Principal Hydraulic Consultant to carry out modelling and computational analysis for hydraulic and hydrology applications, including river and coastal modelling, hydrodynamic modelling, flood risk studies, stormwater management, and reservoir, spillway, and dam breach modelling.
The successful candidate will communicate directly with clients and supervise junior team members.
About the Role
The role includes:
* Undertake model studies related to rivers and coastal systems
* Construct hydraulic and hydrodynamic models, validate them, and use them to investigate flood risk and propose flood mitigation strategies
* Perform coastal modelling, including wave and tidal studies, outfalls, and dispersion analyses
* Prepare technical reports
* Prepare tenders and deliver projects within budget and schedule
* Liaise with clients and external organizations as needed
* Supervise junior team members, supporting their training and development
The role is suitable for candidates with a degree in Science, Engineering, or related fields, and Chartered status in relevant institutions such as CIWEM.
Required qualifications, skills, and knowledge include:
* Experience with river modelling software such as Flood Modeller Pro, MIKE, TUFLOW
* Proficiency in GIS, MS Word, and Excel
* Effective communication skills
* Ability to produce clear, high-quality reports
* Ability to work within budgets and deadlines
* Knowledge application to non-standard situations
* Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and focus on quality
* Motivation to develop technical skills and advance career
* Experience with programming, macro writing, or task automation
* Experience in water quality modelling
* Commitment to supporting junior staff and their professional development
