Microsoft Solution Architect – Critical Infrastructure
Contract | Onsite 1–2 days/week | Warwick

We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Solution Architect to help shape the electricity network of the future. This is a hands‑on, technically challenging role with real‑world impact, supporting the journey to Net Zero and beyond.
What you will do
* Lead solution architecture for key power system design applications and contribute to the Digital Twin strategy.
* Drive execution of enterprise architecture strategies and value stream initiatives.
* Design and implement secure, cost‑effective digital solutions to optimise electricity network planning across England and Wales.
* Collaborate across teams to integrate systems and data for advanced modelling, simulation, correlation, and visualisation.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop high‑level and detailed architectures, including High Availability and Disaster Recovery strategies for power system applications (e.g., Power Factory).
* Size and configure virtual applications on Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).
* Maintain architecture documentation and diagrams, capturing key design decisions.
* Present conceptual and technical solutions to stakeholders in a clear, business‑friendly way.
Evaluation & Governance
* Assess and recommend technologies, frameworks, and tools to meet project needs.
* Conduct cost‑benefit analyses and feasibility studies for cloud or SaaS solutions.
* Ensure compliance with architecture standards and governance processes.
Technical Leadership
* Provide mentoring and technical guidance to development teams.
* Gather and validate functional and non‑functional requirements, including performance, scalability, and security.
* Identify risks and propose optimised solutions.
* Develop cloud adoption strategies, roadmaps, and design patterns.
* Implement Azure PaaS services including Web Apps, Storage, SQL Database, Azure Data Factory (ADF), and API Management.
* Integrate Snowflake, Data Fabric, Data Lake, Databricks, and ETL/ELT pipelines.
* Lead migration projects and enterprise system integration.
Ways of Working
* Operate in Agile/Kanban environments.
* Apply DevOps practices, CI/CD, and GitHub workflows.
* Work within value streams and process‑driven architectures.
Experience & Skills
* Appreciation of power systems engineering and willingness to learn more.
* Strong understanding of network architectures and components.
* Knowledge of data controls and industry benchmarks.
* Exposure to digital twin solutions and applications such as ArcGIS, Geogrid, SCADA, Plexos, Maximo, PSCAD.
* Familiarity with network design and management products from vendors like Aspentech, Siemens, DigSilent, IPS, or Cognite.
