Role: Staff Front End Engineer
Location: Hybrid - 2-3 days in London Office
Compensation: Up to £170,000 + equity
We’re working with a frontier AI-driven biology lab on a mission to redefine how science is done. Their research and engineering teams are building next-generation tools that help scientists visualise, understand, and design biology at an unprecedented scale.
As a Front End Engineer, you’ll craft the visual layer of this transformation, designing interfaces that turn vast, complex biological data into intuitive, beautiful experiences. Your work will sit at the intersection of AI, design, and discovery, directly accelerating breakthroughs in life sciences.
What you’ll do
* Build responsive, high-performance web UIs that make complex scientific data explorable and engaging.
* Lead frontend architecture, shaping reusable component libraries and design systems.
* Collaborate with machine learning researchers, engineers, and biologists to translate cutting-edge science into intuitive digital tools.
* Push the limits of frontend performance, accessibility, and interactivity.
* Write and maintain comprehensive unit and end-to-end tests to ensure reliability at scale.
You should have
* Strong experience with TypeScript/JavaScript and modern frameworks (React or similar).
* A proven track record of delivering polished, performant, and elegant user interfaces.
* Deep appreciation for UI/UX craftsmanship and accessibility.
* Familiarity with HTTP, REST APIs, websockets, and secure frontend patterns.
* A creative streak — you think visually and love turning complexity into clarity.
Nice-to-haves
* Experience with 3D or WebGL rendering, or other data-rich visualisations.
* Experience building or maintaining design systems and component libraries.
If you’re excited by the idea of using world-class engineering to accelerate world-changing science, building interfaces that literally help unlock the secrets of life then we’d love to hear from you.
