Research Fellow in Thermoregulatory Physiology (Fixed term for 16 months)

Posted 1 day ago. Be among the first 25 applicants.

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region with a global presence. Our students and staff are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.

The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences seeks to appoint a Research Fellow in Thermoregulatory Physiology for an initial 16‑month period. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and conduct industry‑funded collaborative research projects in thermoregulatory physiology in healthy persons, acting as principal investigator where appropriate.

You will extend, transform, and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to the research projects and appropriate external activities, including data dissemination at meetings and written reports. You will also contribute to research that aligns predominantly to the Performance Group within the Research Institute.

Requirements: You will be expected to have a PhD in human physiology (or equivalent) and experience of inter‑disciplinary research in other fields, such as sports nutrition or applied physiology.

Benefits: We offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support, and family‑friendly policies.

In return, we look forward to hearing from you if you feel this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU.

Encouragement: Applications are encouraged from all individuals who meet the advert criteria, particularly from females, BAME, LGBTQ+, non‑binary, individuals with a disability or those from culturally, ethnically, sexually or racially distinct backgrounds.

Application: Informal enquiries can be made to Professor David Low on 0151 904 6244 or email at d.a.low@ljmu.ac.uk. Anticipated interview date commencing 8th December 2025. All vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.

LJMU is committed to adhering to the Principles set out in the Researcher Development Concordat; in line with this all fixed‑term researchers will be supported to complete 10 days professional development activities per year (pro‑rata).

This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.
