Vacancy Summary: At Severfield, we’re creating better ways to build for a world of changing demands. We have a fantastic opportunity for a Structural Fire Engineer to join our expert team, based at either our Lostock, Bolton or Dalton, Thirsk offices. Our commercial & industrial division designs, fabricates and constructs structural steelwork for sectors including commercial offices, stadia & leisure, industrial & distribution, data centres, retail and health and education. The division has manufacturing sites in Dalton, Lostock, and Enniskillen, with capabilities to support projects across the UK & Europe.
Responsibilities
* Develop and review fire protection strategies in line with UK and international codes.
* Perform fire engineering calculations to determine steel limiting temperatures and fire resistance periods.
* Specify and assess intumescent paint systems, including DFT requirements based on section factor and exposure.
* Prepare and review technical fire resistance reports and submissions.
* Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to integrate fire protection into project designs.
* Support tendering, procurement, and installation of passive fire protection systems.
* Conduct site inspections to verify correct application of coatings.
* Liaise with testing agencies and suppliers regarding fire test data and certifications.
Qualifications & Skills
* Significant experience in fire engineering, focusing on structural steel and intumescent coatings.
* A degree in Structural or Fire Safety Engineering (Master’s preferred); chartership (e.g., CEng, IFE, SFPE) is a plus but not essential.
* Proficiency in fire resistance design, DFT calculations, and relevant codes (Eurocodes, BS 5950 Part 8, EN 1993-1-2).
* Familiarity with fire engineering tools (e.g., Ozone, SAFIR, Vulcan).
* Strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
What You’ll Need
* Experience in fire engineering for structural steel and intumescent coatings.
* Strong technical capability and practical project experience in passive fire protection.
