We are looking for a Mechanical Estimator to join the Projects Team at Thermatic. An experienced mechanical estimator to take the lead in collating bids for mechanical work and services. Report directly to the Head of Projects department. Work collaboratively preparing mechanical bids to a standard which can be submitted to the client. The company is committed to growth and as a result this will be a dynamic position. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop into their own estimating team, processes and systems in addition to developing standardised working practices for the mechanical estimating function moving forward. Most of the mechanical works are plant replacements for existing buildings, fit out works, refurbishment of existing buildings & New build projects. Typically, the value of the mechanical works is anywhere from £10k - £250k. You will need to be comfortable with pricing small works based on limited information or from site visits. Travel: Frequent UK-wide travel and regular overnight stays Responsibilities Include: Take-off mechanical material requirements to allow estimation of material & labour costs including all types of HVAC services. Obtain quotations for plant items and specialist sub-contract packages. Assess any project commercial and technical risks. Review client specifications and ensure that the estimate meets the requirements. Ensure that sub-contractor quotations are accurate and compliant with the specification/drawing requirements. Prepare and submit RFI lists where required and ensure bids are based on the RFI responses. Prepare tender letters, list all technical and commercial clarifications. Provide value added or value engineering suggestions where appropriate or requested. Ensure bids align with any specific program or working requirements. Provide support and liaising for construction and electrical estimation where required. Conduct research to obtain data on labour costs, materials, production times etc. Work with the rest of the commercial team to grow and develop the current subcontractor database. Use software for providing measured bills and pricing of items within tender packages, data analysis. Perform risk analysis prior to submission of any larger value tenders. Create and submit estimate reports, tender submissions or bids to Commercial team. Build relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, engineers etc.) Provide consultation on planning (schedules, manpower needs etc.), production of tender stage programs. Provide and complete tender quality submissions were requested related to the mechanical services. Complete technical question responses where required as part of the tender related to the mechanical bid. Experience & Qualifications: Proven experience and qualifications as a mechanical estimator or similar position with a minimum of 5 years' experience. Familiarity with financial and project management principles. In depth knowledge of methods and estimation formulas, practices. Strong maths and IT ability with an analytical, data mindset. Proficient in relevant software system applications. Develop relationships with subcontractors to ensure timely submission of supporting quotes and identifying new sub-contractors for the business. Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities. Thoroughness and reliability. Excellent organisational skills. Required Skills: Gas/Boiler installation works. AHU/MHVR installations.
