2 hours per week, 36 weeks per year / Fixed term until 29/04/26

The Level 5 Diploma in Web Application Development is an industry-focused online qualification that equips learners with the practical skills and theoretical understanding necessary to design, build, test and deploy full web applications. Learners gain experience across front-end and back-end technologies, responsive design, frameworks like Django, data storage and databases, user authentication, APIs, automated testing, and more.

What we are looking for:

1. Strong coding skills: proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python
2. A relevant degree (e.g. Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development) or equivalent experience
3. Evidence of continuous professional development (courses, certifications, self projects etc)
4. Experience using frameworks such as Django (or similar MVC frameworks); knowledge of React or other front-end frameworks is a plus
5. Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL) and non-relational databases
6. Experience with software testing (manual and/or automated, version control (e,.g. Git), APIs, user authentication
7. Ability to teach/explain code, architectures, debugging, responsive design, best practices, performance, security
8. Good standard of English; strong communication skills (verbal and written)
9. Ability to design assessments / milestone projects aligned to learning outcomes
10. Prior experience teaching at Level 5 / Higher Education / Further Education or in a bootcamp environment (desirable)

Duties/responsibilities:

11. Plan, prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials, labs, workshops and assessments aligned with the curriculum, including the four built-in milestone projects
12. Provide student support: mentoring, code reviews, feedback on assignments, answering queries, helping with debugging and problem solving
13. Use the learning management system (LMS) & Code Institute content and platform for delivery; ensure students stay engaged, track their progress, identify learners needing extra support
14. Participate in curriculum review and continuous improvement, incorporating best practices, keeping up to date with web development trends & frameworks
15. User-Centric Frontend Development (responsive design, content layout, accessibility)
16. Interactive Frontend Development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, handling user input, debugging / manual testing
17. Data-Centric Back-end Development (Python, working with relational & non-relational databases)
18. Full Stack Frameworks (Django / Python MVC frameworks, APIs, authentication, e-commerce functionality, persistent storage, automated testing)

Nescot is graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted following its latest inspection in January 2023. Inspectors rated the College as Good in all 8 aspects. The report recognises that students “enjoy their courses and are motivated to succeed”, and benefit from “highly supportive relationships” with staff. Safeguarding arrangements are “effective” with regular training for staff, and leaders have in place “an effective policy for safer recruitment.”
