Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Process Control Group
The Opportunity
The School of Chemical Engineering at UNSW has an opportunity for a Research Fellow. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow is required to carry out scientific research on an aspect of an ARC Discovery Project on “A Probabilistic Approach to Big Data-Based Industrial Process Control” (DP250101137). The Postdoctoral Research Fellow is expected to undertake research on control theory and machine learning techniques for project DP250101137. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work with the Process Control Group in the School of Chemical Engineering. This role reports to Professor Jie Bao and has no direct reports.
* Salary, Level A - $91,381 - $121,838 per annum + 17% superannuation
* Full Time
* Fixed-term contract – 24 months
* Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia
Responsibilities
* Carry out scientific research on an ARC Discovery Project related to probabilistic approaches to big data-based industrial process control.
* Undertake research on control theory and machine learning techniques for the project.
* Collaborate with the Process Control Group in the School of Chemical Engineering; work under the supervision of Professor Jie Bao.
Qualifications
* PhD in Engineering or Mathematics.
* Demonstrated skills and experience with process control and modern control theories including nonlinear control and stochastic systems theory, ideally Behavioural Systems theory and applications.
* Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
* Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
* Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
* Strong mathematical skills.
* An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
