Bourn surgery are looking for a confident and experienced HCA/phlebotomist to support and work alongside our wonderful nursing team. We are a rural, dispensing practice of just over 6,800 patients in the beautiful village of Bourn.
17.5 hours per week over two days preferably Monday and Thursday. 8.15am to 6pm with a one hour unpaid lunch break.
Main duties of the job
b.Support the Practice Nurse with health promotionprogrammes
c.Carry out baseline observations such as pulseoximitery, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findingsaccurately
d.Facilitate routine BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
e.Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinicaltasks as required
f.Support the Practice Nurse with the management ofchronic disease clinics
g.Carry out BMI checks as directed
h.Act as a chaperone as required
i.Undertake venepuncture
j.Administer flu, Pneumococcal and Shinglesvaccinations.Also B12 injections.
k.When trained, carry out ear irrigation under thesupervision of the Practice Nurse
l.Carry out ECGs as requested
m.Ensure specimens are checked and ready for onward transportation
n.Provide support during minor operations as required
o.Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked andprepared for each session
p.Ensure fridges temperatures are checked routinely inaccordance with guidance. Also cleaned as per IFC policy.
q.Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areasand sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy
r. Deliveropportunistic health promotion where appropriate
s. Ordering of supplies, pathology, LARC and paper products whenrequired.

We are a rural, dispensing practice of just over 6,800 patients in the beautiful village of Bourn. We are also a teaching practice with other allied clinicians including, clinical pharmacist, paramedic and first contact practitioner (physio). Our nursing team consists of a lead nurse as well as two part time practice nurses and HCA to support the team.
Job responsibilities
Tosupport the practice nursing and administrative teams in the delivery ofclinical and administrative services, working as part of the practicemulti-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to theentitled patient population.
The Healthcare Assistant will deliver and assistclinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, healthpromotion and patient education while also supporting the administrative teamon an as-required basis.
