Place Operations
About the role
Bury is a proud and prosperous borough, home to thriving regeneration and growth opportunities, new housing developments, and a key partner in the Northern Gateway development. Our ‘LET’s Do IT’ strategy defines our vision and outlook to proactively achieve and deliver for our communities, residents, and businesses. The Assistant Director of Place Operations will be central to creating a borough that is clean and green, leading investments in highways, transport connectivity, and active travel to enable access to employment, education, and cultural opportunities. This role involves unlocking new development sites and supporting the borough’s sustainability ambitions.
With a background in engineering or highways, you will lead place-based services including street scene, waste, and environment. You will manage a large workforce, engage with diverse stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement through transformation. Collaboration within the council and with external partners such as the Greater Manchester Combined Authority will be essential. Your work will ensure that place services contribute to making Bury a clean, safe, and welcoming environment, empowering residents and attracting investment to support the local economy. This is a significant opportunity to make a tangible difference every day.
