Location: Teesside, UK (with travel to site, fabrication yards, and client/vendor locations as required)
Reporting To: NZT Consortium Project Director
Role Overview
As the Consortium HSSE Manager for the Net Zero Teesside Power Project, you will be responsible for orchestrating and delivering the project’s HSSE strategy and key deliverables. You will champion a ‘One Team’ approach, ensuring alignment with all HSSE management policies, procedures, and processes across the project. Your leadership will foster a strong safety culture, drive continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.
Key Interactions
* Internal: NZT Project Directorate, UKOC & POC HSSE Heads, NZT UK Site HSSE Manager, and other UK and international HSSE Managers.
* External: Client HSSE Manager, Principal Contractor HSSE Manager, and other external stakeholders.
* Reports to: NZT Project Director and Head of UK HSSE
Main Responsibilities
* Serve as the primary HSSE contact for the NZT Project, developing and implementing the HSSE strategy aligned with project objectives.
* Develop and maintain the Project Consortium HSSE Management Plan, setting philosophies, strategies, and goals to achieve exemplary HSSE performance.
* Draft, review, and update procedures to ensure compliance with project safety standards and statutory requirements.
* Take ownership of the Consortium HSSE Management Plan, providing leadership, oversight, and continuous monitoring of its effectiveness.
* Lead the delivery of HSSE project milestones, fostering a unified ‘One Team’ approach across all policies, procedures, and processes.
* Ensure all project activities adhere to the HSSE Management System and UK statutory regulations.
* Maintain regular communication and coordination with the Project Directorate, Project Director, and HSSE stakeholders.
* Facilitate ongoing dialogue with HSSE Managers within the consortium, including feedback and lessons learned from site HSSE meetings (T.EN Corporate HSSE, Client HSSE, GE NZT HSE, UK Site HSSE, Fabrication Yards HSSE).
* Promote HSSE awareness and best practices throughout the project lifecycle.
* Lead the Project HSSE Steering Committee, driving strategic HSSE initiatives.
* Collaborate closely with the Client’s HSSE Manager to develop joint initiatives aimed at enhancing HSSE performance.
* Plan and oversee HSSE activities such as workshops, assessments, audits, inspections, leadership sessions, and training to mitigate risks and manage hazards effectively.
* Act as the focal point for incident reporting, analysis, and statistics, sharing lessons learned to foster continuous improvement.
* Identify areas within the project where targeted HSSE initiatives can most effectively achieve safety and sustainability goals.
Scope & Locations
* Project Locations: Teesside, UK, including site, fabrication yards, and associated offices in the UK, Paris, and Asia.
* Travel: Regular travel between project sites, fabrication yards, and client/vendor locations as needed.
* Team Management: Limited direct management; high-level transversal coordination across project teams.
Candidate Profile
* Qualifications: Level 6 Diploma (or equivalent) in HSE or related field.
* Experience: Significant experience in large-scale construction or fabrication projects with multiple stakeholders, preferably within the UK.
* Knowledge: Extensive understanding of HSE management systems, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and applicable UK regulations.
* Skills: Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, meeting facilitation, analytical thinking, and the ability to influence organizational HSE culture.
* Additional: Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work effectively in multicultural environments, and support continuous HSE improvement initiatives.
