Job Description
At Rolls-Royce, we have exciting opportunities within our Lifecycle Engineering teams in the UK and Germany, supporting both Defence and Civil Divisions. Lifecycle Engineers (Product Support Engineers) focus on ensuring our products are safe, reliable, durable, and cost-effective for our customers. They support the design and development of new products and provide technical support for in-service product fleets.
The role is broad and varied; you could apply your skills to customer operational support, attribute analysis, complex investigations, or influence future product development. As the primary engineering interface for the in-service fleet, Lifecycle Engineers deliver technical excellence and quick responses to engine technical and operational issues, working closely with design engineers, specialists, and customers. You will lead investigations of service events, develop containment strategies to minimize operational disruptions, and advise on design modifications to address root causes. You will also review service hardware to understand component deterioration and its impact on product functionality.
Your work will help ensure products meet safety, reliability, and maintainability standards, impacting in-service costs and profitability. You may collaborate with the design team to improve future products through attribute models and Design for Service principles.
Responsibilities
1. Manage known and potential safety issues, representing the company at Safety Boards.
2. Lead multidisciplinary teams investigating service issues related to durability, cost, reliability, or maintainability, implementing containment actions, root cause analysis, and corrective measures.
3. Prepare and deliver technical communications to airframers, regulators, operators, and stakeholders.
4. Provide technical support for resolving operational queries and issues.
5. Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.
6. Identify cost reduction opportunities by reviewing service policies and maintenance documentation.
7. Predict safety and reliability performance using statistical techniques for risk assessment and analysis.
8. Model deterioration mechanisms and service attributes to identify optimization opportunities.
9. Support and influence design teams to ensure future products meet in-service attribute targets from entry into service, including FRACAS management.
Qualifications
* Degree in a STEM subject with experience in an engineering environment (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electrical, Materials Science & Metallurgy, or Controls).
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills.
* Ability to perform complex, novel, and ambiguous tasks.
* Excellent planning, organizational, and leadership skills for cross-functional collaboration.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Chartered Engineer or professional membership is advantageous.
Additional requirements include the ability to obtain UK Security Check (SC) clearance, with support from Rolls-Royce if needed. Some roles require holding a UK security clearance without caveats.
