Purpose
We have an exciting opportunity arise within one of our Early Years settings, and are looking to recruit a motivated and passionate Practitioner to join our team as a support practitioner working one to one with a deaf child
The 1:1 Learning Support Practitioner is responsible to the setting Manager for the support and care of a child in our setting. This role will help the child to develop and progress in all areas of learning.
Responsible For
A child who has loss of hearing and has cochlear implants to support with this. The 1:1 worker will need to be skilled at knowing when the child requires adult support and when they are able to manage tasks for themselves.
The 1:1 worker will need to develop a strong and trusted relationship with the child and learn to recognise their particular signed and verbal communication.
Direct 1:1 support may be required during transitional times of the day, changes to routine, and communication. There may also be periods during the day where direct support from the 1:1 Learning Support Practitioner is not needed and assistance with the general room will be appropriate, and beneficial to the room as a whole.
Other Key Relationships
The postholder will develop, maintain and coordinate strong partnerships with colleagues, parents and/or carers, as well as other professionals, to meet the individual needs of the child.
Main Responsibilities
* 1:1 monitoring of the child and awareness of risk factors in the setting and whilst using the setting grounds.
* Recognise the specific needs of the child being supported, and intervene in situations where there is a communication breakdown that could put the child at risk of harm.
* Complete and implement specific risk assessments and support plans if required such as IPP’s (Individual Progress Plans). These are to be shared with parents and other support agencies.
* Contribute and oversee monitoring and assessment for the child working with key staff.
* Support the child with their personal care.
* Support communication and language development, to ensure she understands what staff/other children are communicating to her.
* Support her inclusion at the setting and peer relationships.
* Effectively deliver the EYFS curriculum by interacting and engaging in play opportunities with the child so that their progress is being encouraged in all areas of learning and development. Ensure that the individual needs and interests of the child are met.
* To work with other agencies involved with the child to ensure everyone is working towards the same targets and goals.
* Participate in a “key person” system for the child ensuring their learning journey, individual planning records and relevant information and paperwork are kept up to date. Ensure the child’s individual information on Famly is currently up to date and that all relevant information is shared with the parent and other key adults.
* Ensure the nutritional needs of the child are met and food safety regulations are complied with.
* Ensure the child is kept safe and understand safeguarding procedures.
* To advise the Manager/Deputy of any concerns e.g. over children, parents, the safety of the environment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
* To attend and complete mandatory and any other training to fulfil your role as necessary.

Person Specification
Qualifications And Experience
* Early Years’ experience preferable.
* Experience in working with children who have additional needs desirable.
* BSL trained desirable or willingness to learn.
* First aid qualification or willingness to learn.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
* Sound understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
* Strong understanding and knowledge of Safeguarding, Child Protection and the wider legislative requirements for working with children.
Personal Qualities
* Ability to build trust and strong working relationships with both colleagues and parents.
* Ability to use a variety of techniques to clearly and successfully communicate with both children and adults.
