Job Purpose
We are looking for a Commercial, Rights and Business Affairs Assistant to join BBC Commercial, Rights and Business Affairs (CRBA), initially in the BBC Sports Rights team. This is a permanent role based in Salford.
CRBA manages and connects the BBC's Intellectual Property, strategic and business interests through expert negotiation, contracting and commercial deal-making. It is comprised of multiple business teams embedded in Content (including Television, Radio & Music, Children's & Education, Sport), News, Technology & Product, the Nations, plus a central CRBA team. The teams share many common business activities key to the commissioning, production and distribution of the BBC's services and content. Also, the teams work with the BBC's professional services including Finance, HR, Legal, Editorial Policy and Strategy.
The Sports Rights Team is a multi-disciplinary team, responsible for acquiring and contracting sports rights held by the BBC, and for ensuring BBC output is consistent with those rights held, as well as for developing and maintaining the BBC's relationships with sports rights holders.
This is an exciting opportunity at a pivotal time for the BBC. You will be instrumental in helping the BBC to continue to provide award-winning and innovative sports output to unrivalled audiences.
All CRBA colleagues are 'agile workers' and our expectation is that they will work an average of 2-3 days per week in BBC buildings.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
As a CRBA Assistant, reporting to the Senior CRBA Manager, BBC Sport, you will deliver first-class business affairs, negotiation, legal and contracting support in relation to BBC Sport and its ancillary activities. Your primary responsibilities will be providing administrative support to the Sports Rights team, and supporting the delivery of our Sports Rights Enquiries service to programme makers and schedulers.
You will:
1. Provide support to the Sports Rights team including diary management, arrangement of travel and accommodation, attendance at meetings and note taking, and delivery of other administrative tasks as directed by team members
2. Assist with delivery of the Sports Rights Enquiries service as required. Including responding to queries, ensuring sports rights are cleared for use in BBC programming, and administering any rights related payments
3. Ensure the Sports Rights Database remains up to date and a useful resource for the Sports Rights Team, by adding and updating details as contracts are finalised
4. Act as a point of contact and maintain relationships with various stakeholders
5. Use ACON, OnAir, SAP, the Sports Rights Database and other systems to keep information up to date, produce contractual documentation and raise sales and purchase orders
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
In addition to the Job Description, to be successful in this role the following skills, knowledge, and experience are essential:
* Excellent organisation, coordination and time management skills. including the ability to prioritise workloads and good attention to detail
* Excellent IT skills including proficiency in MS Office and Teams, along with experience of databases and administration systems
* Good interpersonal skills and the ability to forge strong working relationships quickly with internal and external stakeholders is key to this role
In addition to the Job Description, the following are desirable:
* Some business affairs experience, and in particular knowledge of intellectual property rights
* An understanding of production and the needs and motivations of programme makers, particularly with respect to sports broadcasting
* Experience of sports rights and/or rights contracting processes
