About the School
A large, inclusive, and community-focused primary school in North London is seeking a highly motivated and emotionally resilient Behaviour Mentor to join their inclusion and pastoral support team. The school has a strong focus on early intervention, positive behaviour support, and trauma-informed practice. Behaviour Mentors play a vital role in supporting pupils who experience emotional regulation difficulties, challenging behaviour, anxiety, attachment needs, or barriers related to social and emotional development.
About the Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work with pupils across Key Stages 1 and 2 who require additional support to manage behaviour and engage successfully in learning. You will provide consistent one-to-one mentoring, small group interventions, and in-class support to help pupils develop emotional awareness, self-regulation strategies, and positive behaviour for learning.
You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCo, safeguarding leads, and senior leaders to implement behaviour support plans and contribute to whole-school inclusion strategies. This role requires patience, empathy, and a calm, consistent approach.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
* Providing structured one-to-one mentoring sessions for pupils with behavioural and SEMH needs
* Supporting pupils with ADHD, anxiety, trauma-related behaviours, and attachment difficulties
* Implementing individual behaviour support plans and risk assessments
* Supporting pupils within the classroom to promote engagement and focus
* De-escalating challenging situations using restorative and trauma-informed approaches
* Supporting pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and lunchtime
* Working closely with teachers to adapt strategies and approaches
* Monitoring behaviour progress and emotional wellbeing
* Maintaining accurate records and contributing to review meetings
* Supporting reintegration following exclusions or time out of class
* Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and families
* Promoting a positive, inclusive learning environment
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
* Previous experience working with children or young people with behavioural or SEMH needs
* Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
* Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
* A commitment to safeguarding and child wellbeing
* A proactive and reflective approach to inclusion
Experience in SEMH settings, alternative provision, youth work, care, or mentoring roles would be highly advantageous. Team Teach or similar behaviour management training is desirable but not essential.
