About The Role

Do you want to be at the forefront of one of the world’s most ambitious sustainability initiatives? Balfour Beatty has created iconic buildings and infrastructure around the world over the past 115 years, redefining excellence and setting the industry benchmark. As a result, Balfour Beatty and consortium partners have been selected by bp to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage, a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster. We are seeking a dynamic Assistant Site Manager to contribute to our Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

Role Purpose: Assist with the site management of Envelope packages for cladding and roofing of large shelters, including installation of manufactured systems, doors, roller shutters, and roof lights. Reporting to the Lead Construction Manager.

Responsibilities

* Coordinating logistics elements of the package with wider site teams (day‑to‑day deliveries and traffic movements).
* Coordinating with other construction/project managers to ensure adjacent works are coordinated – attendance at daily SIC/DABS meetings and each‑morning subcontractor briefings.
* Involved in subcontractor dynamic risk assessments each day prior to works commencing.
* Assisting other managers in ensuring SIMOPS within work areas is managed effectively, considering working at height.
* Daily progress reporting (site diary) and ensuring subcontractor daily reporting is accurate to mitigate commercial risk of disallowed costs.
* Assisting in RAMS appraisals and implementation for works.
* Ensuring plant checks and permits are in place daily prior to works commencing and permits are closed out as necessary.
* Ensuring any change elements on site are reported up to the Lead Construction Manager.
* The role will be primarily site‑based (approximately 80:20 site:office split).
* Assisting the Lead BB Manager with site quality inspections and handovers, using the Client EasyPlant system.
* Ensuring installation records are kept prior to elements being closed up; snags/defects are allocated to the correct subcontractors and closed out timely; product installed in accordance with best practice to achieve a Right‑First‑Time approach.
* Checking for quality installation of product in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines and design drawings.
* Daily appraisal of work areas on site, including weekly H&S inspections.

Qualifications

* Experience managing subcontracted envelope (cladding or roofing) construction packages.
* Experience working on large‑scale construction projects.
* Professionally qualified via BSc or NVQ route, or working towards qualification.
* SMSTS (preferable) or SSSTS.
* CSCS card.

Benefits

* Smart working; flexibility such as staggered start and finish times, and up to 40% remote working where roles allow.
* 25 days paid annual leave (pro‑rata).
* Family‑friendly policies including 28 weeks full pay for maternity/adoption leave and four weeks full pay for paternity/partner’s leave.
* Pension, share incentive plan, volunteering leave, recognition schemes and more.
