DescriptionEmployerLocation

This vacancy is a rolling vacancy and applications will be reviewed as they are received.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated English teacher to join our successful and supportive team. This is a flexible opportunity, and we welcome applications from both full-time and part-time candidates.

About Our School

We are a happy and successful high school with a thriving Sixth Form, serving the community of Droitwich and its surrounding villages. Our intake is socio-economically diverse, and we are proud of how our staff embrace this, creating an inclusive environment where all students can succeed.

Our House system sits at the heart of school life, helping to foster a strong sense of belonging, identity and recognition, alongside ambition and optimism.

Our staff are talented, collaborative and exceptionally supportive of one another. Under the leadership of our new Co-Headteachers, we are building on our ‘Good’ OFSTED rating by celebrating what we do well while driving forward meaningful improvements. We have strengthened our leadership structure to accelerate progress and are excited about our CPD programme that is ambitious, impactful and highly regarded beyond our school.

We are proud of the difference we make to our students, both academically and pastorally, and we are committed to going even further. We strongly encourage you to read our Information for Prospective Colleagues, which offers a deeper insight into our ethos, culture and day-to-day life.

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for either an early career or experienced teacher to join our established English department.

You will:

1. Teach English across Key Stages, including the opportunity to contribute to A Level teaching
2. Bring creativity and energy to your teaching, making English engaging, relevant and accessible to all learners
3. Be committed to raising standards through collaboration and sharing best practice
4. Demonstrate strong subject knowledge and a genuine enthusiasm for your subject

We are looking for someone who thrives in the classroom, enjoys working with young people of all abilities, and is passionate about making English both engaging and meaningful.

About You

You will:

5. Be an effective and reflective classroom practitioner
6. Build strong relationships with students and colleagues
7. Motivate and inspire learners through a positive and energetic approach
8. Value teamwork and contribute fully to a collaborative department

About our English Department

The English department has a strong tradition of supportiveness; colleagues look out for one another and retain a strong sense of purpose. We encourage teachers to adapt our well-planned curriculum framework creatively to ensure the best outcomes for the students in front of them and to ensure that students enjoy and are engaged in English learning. The team is a good mix of those who are experienced and have been at DSHS a while and then also colleagues in the middle part of their careers who have joined us in the last 4-5 years from other schools. There is also a member of the team who recently completed the NQT/ECT programme with us.

At GCSE, the students follow the AQA specifications for Language and Literature. Progress in English has been respectable but there is definitely room for improvement, particularly with disadvantaged pupils.

We have always recruited one Literature and one Film Studies group (Eduqas specifications) in each Sixth Form year group. Value added in the Sixth Form courses has been on the up and is now regularly above national averages.

If you are looking for a role—full-time or part-time—where you can make a genuine impact, be supported by committed colleagues, and continue to develop your practice, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Safeguarding Statement

Droitwich Spa High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
