3. Be committed to raising standards through collaboration and sharing best practice
4. Demonstrate strong subject knowledge and a genuine enthusiasm for your subject
We are looking for someone who thrives in the classroom, enjoys working with young people of all abilities, and is passionate about making English both engaging and meaningful.
About You
You will:
5. Be an effective and reflective classroom practitioner
6. Build strong relationships with students and colleagues
7. Motivate and inspire learners through a positive and energetic approach
8. Value teamwork and contribute fully to a collaborative department
About our English Department
The English department has a strong tradition of supportiveness; colleagues look out for one another and retain a strong sense of purpose. We encourage teachers to adapt our well-planned curriculum framework creatively to ensure the best outcomes for the students in front of them and to ensure that students enjoy and are engaged in English learning. The team is a good mix of those who are experienced and have been at DSHS a while and then also colleagues in the middle part of their careers who have joined us in the last 4-5 years from other schools. There is also a member of the team who recently completed the NQT/ECT programme with us.
At GCSE, the students follow the AQA specifications for Language and Literature. Progress in English has been respectable but there is definitely room for improvement, particularly with disadvantaged pupils.
We have always recruited one Literature and one Film Studies group (Eduqas specifications) in each Sixth Form year group. Value added in the Sixth Form courses has been on the up and is now regularly above national averages.
If you are looking for a role—full-time or part-time—where you can make a genuine impact, be supported by committed colleagues, and continue to develop your practice, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Safeguarding Statement
