Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a podiatrist to join our team to provide leadership for the specialist nail surgery service for podiatry patients across Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT).
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to work at Band 6 to provide clinical leadership for all staff, ensuring standards of clinical expertise and excellence in podiatric nail surgery are continually maintained and improved.
About Us
The Podiatry Department works from 11 different locations across the Torbay and South Devon Area and consists of 45 clinical staff comprising of Head of Service, Team Leads, Specialist podiatrists, podiatrists, assistant practitioners and clinical support staff. We also have 10 administrative staff.
We aim to innovateively deliver first‑class lower limb and foot health preventative care across South Devon. We strive to achieve better outcomes for our patients whilst we also actively promote development opportunities for our staff.

Job Responsibilities
* Provide professional clinical leadership for all staff, ensuring standards of clinical expertise and excellence in podiatric nail surgery are continually maintained and improved.
* Manage a caseload of patients, providing a comprehensive range of specialist podiatric interventions including nail surgery, wound care and other therapeutic interventions.
* Mentor students on placement from Plymouth University and assist the student placement coordinator.
* Provide education to empower patients, carers and other health professionals in the management of foot conditions.
* Liaise with Primary and Secondary Care professionals to ensure seamless delivery of care to nail surgery patients.
* Carry out assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of podiatric care for a variety of patients with a wide range of clinical needs (e.g., high‑risk diabetics, vascular problems, chronic disease, wound management).
* Refer for appropriate diagnostic tests and inputs as per IRMER guidelines.
* Provide podiatry services in a variety of clinical settings, including hospitals, health centres, clinics and domiciliary settings.
* Delegate effectively and provide care plans for support staff such as clinical support workers, assistant practitioners and students.
* Maintain registration with Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) and relevant qualifications including degree/diploma in podiatry and local anaesthetic administration certificate.
* Follow departmental policies, procedures and guidelines while exercising clinical judgment within professional boundaries.
* Attend all mandatory training sessions as required by the Trust.
* Maintain accurate clinical records of all patient consultations and related work at each clinical session in accordance with professional standards and Trust policy.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Essential – Registered Podiatrist with Health and Care Professions Council.
* Essential – Certificate in administration of local anaesthetic.
* Essential – Mentorship qualification.
* Desirable – Prescribing qualification (independent or supplementary).
* Desirable – IRMER Certificate.
Knowledge
* Essential – Proven relevant postgraduate experience in the NHS.
* Essential – Specialist knowledge and experience in nail surgery.
* Essential – Experience of protocol and guideline development and implementation.
* Essential – Knowledge of developing, auditing, monitoring and evaluating protocols/guidelines and procedures.
* Desirable – Knowledge of departmental and Trust policies, procedures and guidelines.
* Desirable – Involvement in root cause analysis investigations relating to clinical matters.
* Desirable – Evidence of supporting research activity.
Skills
