SEMH Teaching AssistantLocation: Handsworth, Birmingham (B20)Start Date: September 2025Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday 8:30am-3:30pmPay: £455-£480 Per Week
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Handsworth, Birmingham (B20). This full-time role will involve providing dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 4 pupil with SEN and SEMH needs, including Anxiety, Attachment Difficulties, and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA).
About the Role:
The successful candidate will work closely with the pupil throughout the school day, supporting their re-engagement with whole class learning and helping them regulate their emotions in a nurturing and structured environment. Your responsibilities will include:
* Supporting the pupil on a 1:1 basis inside and outside the classroom.
* Helping the pupil reintegrate into whole class learning while tailoring content to meet their specific learning needs.
* Maintaining a calm, consistent, and safe learning environment to support regulation and emotional wellbeing.
* Encouraging positive peer interaction and building social confidence.
* Working in collaboration with class teachers, SENCO, and external agencies to develop and implement appropriate support strategies.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
* Previous experience working with pupils with SEN/SEMH needs, including Anxiety, PDA, Attachment Difficulties, and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
* A patient, resilient, and empathetic nature with a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners.
* The ability to build trusting relationships and recognise behavioural cues that may indicate dysregulation or distress.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt support strategies in response to a pupil's changing needs.
* A relevant qualification in supporting teaching and learning (Level 2/3 or equivalent) is desirable.
