Head of Psychology – 9 month FTC – Cygnet
Looking to join Cygnet’s mental health network? We are seeking a qualified Clinical/Forensic/Counselling Psychologist to lead our psychology team at the state‑of‑the‑art Cygnet Hospital Maidstone, a 63‑bed adult mental health facility on the Kent Medical Campus.
The role is full‑time (37.5 hr per week) for a 9‑month fixed‑term contract covering maternity leave. You will play a key part in delivering high‑quality care and advancing the professional development of our staff.
Responsibilities
* Conduct specialist psychological assessments, including tests, semi‑structured interviews, and individual/group therapy.
* Develop risk assessments and care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
* Provide psychological insight and consultation to staff, families and external agencies.
* Supervise and train Assistant Psychologists and participants in the Assistant Psychologist Development Programme (APDP).
* Offer trauma‑informed care in a therapeutic environment aimed at maximizing recovery.
Qualifications
* HCPC registered Clinical/Forensic/Counselling Psychologist with experience in a forensic or mental health setting.
* Minimum 3 years post‑qualification experience.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience delivering trauma‑informed care.
* Passion for working with people with complex mental health needs and behaviors such as aggression, offending history, substance misuse, and self‑harm.

Requirements
The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check. Offer of employment will be subject to successful clearance.
