About the Role
A specialist SEN school in Pinner is seeking dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to join their team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) within a structured, nurturing, and highly supportive environment.
The school caters for pupils aged 11–19 with a range of complex learning needs, including SLD, Autism (ASC), communication difficulties, and associated sensory needs. The focus is on developing communication, independence, life skills, and engagement in learning through personalised support and a highly adapted curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SLD
* Support students during lessons, therapeutic interventions, and life skills activities
* Assist pupils with communication, engagement, and emotional regulation
* Implement EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
* Work closely with teachers, therapists, and wider SEN professionals
* Support the development of independence, social interaction, and functional life skills
* Use visual supports, communication tools, and sensory strategies to enhance learning
* Support pupils with personal care where required
* Contribute to a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
What We’re Looking ForEssential:
* Experience working with children or young people with SEN
* A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
* Commitment to supporting pupils with complex learning needs
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable:
* Experience supporting pupils with SLD, ASC, or complex learning difficulties
* Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, or sensory-based approaches
* Experience within a specialist SEN school or college setting
* Background in education, care, support work, or youth work
