TEXO Recruitment are currently looking for a Heavy Plant Mechanic / Plant Fitter on behalf our external client in Blyth. This key role is responsible for the maintenance, servicing, fault diagnosis, and repair of heavy plant, forklifts and diesel-powered machinery used in port operations. The role ensures that all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime to support cargo handling and operational activities.
Responsibilities
* Perform maintenance, inspection, and repair of heavy plant and mechanical equipment used in port operations
* Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
* Service and repair forklift trucks, telehandlers and other plant equipment.
* Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on plant machinery and port equipment.
* Troubleshoot faults on diesel engines and fuel systems.
* Carry out breakdown repairs to minimise operational disruption.
* Inspect and maintain hydraulic hoses, pumps, cylinders, and drive systems.
* Maintain accurate service records and maintenance documentation.
* Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations within the port environment.
* Work collaboratively with operations teams to maintain equipment reliability.
Requirements
* NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plant Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, or similar.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Forklift maintenance or plant equipment certifications advantageous.
* Experience working as a Plant Fitter, Heavy Plant Mechanic, Forklift Engineer, or Diesel Mechanic.
* Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, mechanical systems, and electrical fault finding.
* Experience servicing and repairing forklifts and heavy plant machinery.
* Ability to diagnose faults quickly and perform effective repairs.
* Experience working in industrial, construction, logistics, or port environments.
