Location: HMP Winchester, Romsey Rd, Winchester SO22 5DF
Salary: £36,678.26 per annum + £1,500 per annum location bonus
Contract: Permanent, full time, 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Carpenter to join our team at HMP Winchester, a category B adult male local prison. Our team works Monday to Friday as a supportive and driven family, creating a safe and nurturing environment for the men in our care.
The prison operates like a self-contained city, requiring hundreds of staff to function. Our Facilities Maintenance Team is dedicated to ensuring smooth and safe operations, impacting prisoners, staff, visitors, and the wider community.
Team and Environment
You will work alongside passionate colleagues including Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Administrators, and Cleaners, all committed to making a positive difference. Working in a prison setting requires emotional resilience, the ability to work at pace, manage multiple tasks, and stay calm under pressure.
Responsibilities
* Perform routine and reactive maintenance tasks as required.
* Adhere to current best practices, safety standards, and use of materials and tools.
* Collaborate effectively with team members.
* Maintain a reliable and robust character, ensuring safety and security.
Qualifications
* Formal qualification such as NVQ or City and Guilds Level 2, or over 5 years of relevant work experience.
* Knowledge of maintenance practices and safety standards.
* Enjoyment of team working and collaboration.
* Honest, reliable, and resilient character.
