We are seeking an articulate and inspiring English Teacher to join our communications faculty. This role involves teaching Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with significant opportunities to deliver A-Level English Literature or Language. You will be responsible for fostering a love of reading and a mastery of writing, ensuring students can navigate both the classics and the complexities of modern discourse. The Department You will join a high-energy English department that views literacy as the fundamental key to social mobility and creative expression. The department is well-resourced with a wide-ranging "Canon" of texts, modern diverse literature, and digital archives for media and language analysis. We utilize a "Knowledge-Rich" curriculum, emphasizing the historical and social contexts of literature—from the Elizabethan stage to the contemporary post-colonial voice. We benefit from strong links with London’s cultural institutions, facilitating theatre trips to the West End and the Globe, and hosting workshops with published poets and authors. Core Responsibilities Delivering high-impact lessons that balance the technical rigour of English Language (grammar, structure, rhetoric) with the analytical depth of English Literature. Teaching students how to deconstruct complex texts, identifying nuances in tone, symbolism, and perspective across poetry, prose, and drama. Preparing Year 11 and Year 13 students for GCSE and A-Level examinations, with a particular focus on high-level essay construction and comparative analysis. Implementing robust literacy and vocabulary-building strategies to ensure all students can express themselves with clarity and sophistication. Leading extracurricular initiatives such as creative writing circles, debate societies, or the school’s student-led magazine. The Successful Candidate We are looking for a bibliophile and a master communicator who can make the written word come alive. Requirements include: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in English Literature, English Language, or a related field. A proven ability to motivate students of all abilities, fostering a classroom environment where critical thinking and respectful debate are encouraged. Strong subject knowledge across the current GCSE and A-Level specifications (e.g., AQA, Edexcel, or OCR). The ability to use physical and digital modelling to show students exactly how to bridge the gap between a thought and a high-level written response. Why Join Us? A school that recognizes English as a cornerstone of its academic identity and a vital tool for student success across the entire curriculum. Access to a structured CPD program focused on the latest research in "Disciplinary Literacy" and cognitive science within the Humanities.
