Exeter College is seeking to appoint a Stipendiary Lecturer in English. This is a fixed-term role, tenable from 1 October 2025 until 30 September 2026.
The Lecturer will be required to undertake 144 ‘weighted’ hours of tutorial or class teaching of undergraduates of the College (or, by exchange, undergraduates of other Colleges). In addition, they will be required to set and mark College examinations, to submit termly reports, to participate fully in the undergraduate Admissions process and Access/ Outreach activities, to be a key point of liaison for visiting students who are taking English papers, and to participate fully in the running of English and its related within the College.
The postholder will give tutorials and revision classes on the following topics:
• Oxford Final Honour School paper 5, 1760 – 1830
The ability to teach additional periods of Literature in English (1660-1760 in particular) and FHS Paper 5: Epic for the Joint Honours course of Classics & English will be an advantage, but is not essential.
The salary for this appointment will be within a range £16,569 – £18,308 per annum. In addition, a range of other generous benefits are available, as set out in the Further Particulars.
