As a result of this growth and the introduction of new leading-edge technology we are seeking to recruit for the new role of Assistant Transport Manager, reporting to the Transport Manager. The role holder will be an enthusiastic, motivated and ambitious Assistant Transport Manager who will join the Transport team based in Macclesfield. Distributionis one of our key services and as a member of the Transport team, your daily work will be essential to helping us fulfil our day-to-day operations and to lead the Transport department on occasions of the Transport Managers absence. The role will successfully ensure all our products are received by customers on time and in full. The role will ensure the success of our next day delivery service to our customers whilst delivering initiatives to develop the team and ensure compliance in all aspects is maintained to the highest standards. The role tasks will include but are not limited to Managing all transport staff by providing direction and leadership to the whole department, driving for sustainable results, raising morale and inspiring commitment across all drivers and transport office functions. Staff management- performance reviews, recruitment, training and development, holiday and absence management whilst ensuring departmental adherence to time and attendance systems. Working closely with internal stake holders ensuring their Transport commitments are fully met and customers are put first. Scheduling and allocating vehicles, routes, and drivers for maximum efficiency by fully utilising the MaxOptra planning software, Working with the technology team and obtaining regular driver feedback to continuously improve the MaxOptra planning system to always ensure efficient route planning Utilising the Samsara software to monitor driver performance, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal regulations. Utilising the Samsara software to ensure that drivers are driving safely and efficiently with minimal variance to the planned hours for the routes. Any variances are investigated and managed accordingly. Managing fleet operations, including vehicle maintenance, fuel consumption, and driver schedules. Managing and ensuring compliance in relation to maintenance of vehicles and liaising with service providers. Ensuring compliance with local, national, and international transport regulations and safety standards, as required. Ensuring company policies and procedures are communicated, applied and enforced across the Transport team. Ensuring robust driver working time regulations adherence with full traceability. Support in managing transport budgets and controlling costs such as fuel, maintenance, and overtime. Maintaining accurate records of vehicle maintenance, driver performance, and transport expenses. Reviewing, actioning and documenting repairs from the daily defect reports always ensuring compliance. Liaising with suppliers, customers, and internal departments to ensure smooth transport operations. Handling transport-related incidents and customer complaints in a timely and professional manner. Ensuring health & safety, environmental, and legal compliance across all transport operations. Vehicle Management- compliance with H&S and legal requirements, leasing arrangements, Mileage Monitoring, Service Scheduling, fuel management. Overseeing transport route plans and van load plans Liaising with customer services and shop floor management to ensure that daily despatches are planned and organised on time. Leading safe and on time daily loading procedures. Working cross functionally with the manufacturing and warehouse teams to maintain high OTIF % to the customers Cover for the Transport Manager during periods of absence. Adherence to strict confidentiality policies and procedures Align with the business continuous improvement plan to ensure efficiencies are met. To be successful in this role you will have the skills and competencies to be able to deliver the following KPIs (as examples) : The transport department is 100% compliant with no gaps Daily route planning is efficient and utilises the full capabilities of the MaxOptra planning software and our fleet. People Management: Good daily management of the team and all HR related issues for drivers are dealt with promptly and effectively Proven ability to direct and co-ordinate transport operations. Excellent time and task management, leading by example. Managing and improving Transport processes. Excellent customer feedback. Communicating with drivers; ensuring they are kept up to date with relevant training and/or qualifications. Conducting risk assessments of transport systems and providing the business with sound advice and support. Required experience and skills include Ability to stay calm under pressure, multitask and prioritise workload. Excellent communication skills both with colleagues, customers and suppliers Organised and successful in team management, delegation and influencing skills. Excellent geographical knowledge of the UK. An enthusiastic attitude and desire to do what is required to support the business. Experience in Fleet management and route planning utilising technology A proven track record of people management, leading an effective and successful team including coaching and mentoring. Experience working cross functionally, with other departments and functions. Experience of working collaboratively on projects with a focus on continuous improvements. Highly proficient in logistics software and fleet management systems, such as MaxOptra and Samsara. Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance requirements. Ability to investigate issues fully and provide improvement plans to prevent recurrence. Strong analytical skills to manage budgets and KPIs whilst continually assessing transportation costs and efficiencies. Organised and successful in leading a team, coaching, delegation and influencing. Strong H&S knowledge to ensure the safety of all staff is paramount. Advanced IT skills and proficiency in MS office products including Word, Outlook, Excel and Powerpoint. Team Leadership and conflict resolution skills
