Summary of role: As a special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator you'll work with children and young people who need extra support, or require an advanced programme of learning, in order to reach their full educational potential. At Amegreen, you may work with a variety of Special Needs, ranging from, learning difficulties such as dyslexia, conditions such as autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, or have a combination of these difficulties. You may also work with gifted and talented individuals who need to be challenged further than the standard curriculum allows. A key aspect of working in this field is identifying individual needs and adapting to that particular student. Working towards Educational, Health Care Plans is key to progress. As a secondary teacher within Amegreen Education you will have a responsibility for creating a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment. LINE MANAGEMENT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: You will be part of the Amegreen Education team and be line managed through Senior Management and by the Head Teacher. Main Duties and Responsibilities Teach either individuals or small groups of pupils within, or outside, the class. Delivering creative and engaging lessons Adapting and differentiating the curriculum for individual needs To contribute to the delivery and development of the curriculum, having regard to the educational, physical and social needs of the students within a learning environment. To oversee provision maps, adding to use short-, medium- and long-term plans in delivering adaption and intervention in the school curriculum. To set, monitor and review personalised targets that will optimise learning for each individual. To organise the review of EHC plans, PEP and LAC reviews. Prepare and delegate intervention, lessons and resources to teachers and SENCO assistant. Mark and assess work. Develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils. Use special equipment and facilities, such as audiovisual materials and computers to stimulate interest in learning and aid concentration and understanding. Use specialist skills, in interventions, monitoring and reviewing EHCPs. Formalise procedures towards pupils gaining accreditation or examination- access arrangements. Collaborate with the wider staff to define appropriate theme activities for the pupils in relation to the curriculum. Assess children who have long or short-term learning difficulties and work with colleagues to identify individual plans to address the need or gap. Work with the head teacher and governing body to ensure that the requirements of the Equality Act (2010) are met in terms of reasonable adjustments and access arrangements. Liaise with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and educational psychologists. Work closely with parents, carers and guardians. Organise learning outside the classroom in activities such as community visits, school outings or sporting events. Assist in pupils' personal and individual care/medical needs. Carry out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of pupils' progress. Attend statutory annual reviews or other related meetings, such as Looked After Child (LAC) reviews, regarding students with an SEN, which may involve reviewing education, health and care (EHC) plans. Attend in-service training. Manage behaviour according to policy Qualifications This role requires a teaching qualification - To qualify as a teacher in a maintained school in England and Wales, you must have a degree and achieve qualified teacher status (QTS) by completing a period of initial teacher training (ITT), (initial teacher education (ITE) in Wales). SENCO qualification is desirable, however undertaking the SENCO training available within 2 years training agreement applies. Salar y Amegreen Education offers its own salary scale, which generally mirrors National Teaching Scale, under performance management salary rises incrementally. Salary offered will be based on experience and hours of work. You may also be required to undertake such other comparable duties as the Headteacher or Governors require of you from time to time
