Role: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Somerton Contract: Full time, permanent Start: September 2025 Are you looking for more than just a job? Do you want to be part of a nurturing, close-knit educational community where every day brings the chance to make a real difference? If you’re a compassionate, driven individual who thrives on seeing young people succeed, we have the perfect opportunity for you! Our client, a small and well-established independent special school set in the idyllic Somerset countryside, is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their talented and heart-led team. This is a small school for students aged 5 - 14 and offers a supportive environment where education is personal and every child is known, seen and championed. Why This Role Is For You This isn’t your average teaching assistant post. You’ll be working in a school that truly feels like a family - one that celebrates individuality, creativity and connection. With small class sizes, there’s the space and time to focus on what really matters: building trust, boosting confidence and inspiring growth. You’ll support children with a range of needs including social, emotional and mental health challenges, speech and language difficulties and autistic spectrum conditions. Under the guidance of skilled class teachers, you’ll offer both in-class support and deliver small-group or 1:1 learning sessions. Who We’re Looking For You’ll be: Passionate about working with children who learn differently Committed to nurturing not just academic skills, but emotional and social development too A calm, resilient presence who understands the power of positive role-modelling Detail-orientated, with strong written and verbal communication skills Keen to grow - whether through CPD, internal progression or even exploring a future teaching role While experience in a similar setting is advantageous, what really matters is your mindset, motivation and empathy. Previous experience working with young people in any capacity in the UK is essential. What’s In It For You? A permanent role offering stability and real professional purpose A chance to work in a creative, forward-thinking school with an emphasis on wellbeing (for pupils and staff) Opportunities for training, development and progression A workplace where your voice matters and your impact is visible This is a school that welcomes visits and conversations - they want the right person just as much as you want the right fit. Let us help make that match. Please note a full UK driving licence is essential. Working with Long-term Teachers: We are an independent agency working with Nurseries, Primary, Secondary and Special Schools. LTT was founded with the aim of creating a genuine, transparent and straightforward service to help candidates secure their next role.
