Senior Quantity Surveyor – Northampton – Civil Engineering

Working hours: 7.30am-4.30pm
Salary: £60,000-£75,000 + car or £660 monthly car allowance + discretionary bonus
Benefits: 23 days holiday rising annually to 28 days plus bank holidays; buy and sell holiday scheme; death in service at 2 x annual salary; pension: employer 3.5%, employee 4.5%
Responsibilities
* Leading commercial management across assigned projects
* Regular site visits and liaison with the production team
* Preparing and reviewing tenders with estimators
* Providing early cost advice on variations and ensuring only authorised works proceed
* Offering technical advice on drawings and ensuring correct project documentation
* Managing end‑to‑end commercial processes to maximise value
* Working closely with Finance and Procurement
* Producing accurate cost reports, forecasts and commercial summaries
* Analysing rates and prices and agreeing variations or compensation events
* Identifying potential debt risks and negotiating financial reconciliation
* Forecasting monthly and annual profit figures and maintaining accurate commercial records
* Supporting the safety team in applying safety policy and addressing concerns
* Building strong client relationships and representing the business professionally
* Allocating work to subcontractors and overseeing procurement activities
Qualifications
* Experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with civil engineering and residential groundworks experience
* Strong understanding of construction contractual terms
* Excellent Excel skills
* Strong mathematical ability
* Confident producing detailed commercial reports
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Able to manage multiple projects and support junior team members
