Quantity Surveyor - St Albans - Civil engineering projects
We are currently seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join our growing civil engineering team based in St Albans. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute QS with a solid background in infrastructure or civil engineering projects and strong working knowledge of NEC forms of contract. That being said, if you have strong NEC knowledge & great humanship they will consider you. As it's more about having the right principles & ethics.
The Role:
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in the commercial management of civil engineering projects from inception through to final account. Working closely with project managers, engineers, and clients, you will ensure that projects are delivered efficiently, within budget, and in line with contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer and manage NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4)
Prepare, submit, and negotiate interim valuations and final accounts
Monitor project costs and identify risks and opportunities
Manage subcontractor procurement, payments, and variations
Provide accurate forecasting and cost reporting
Support the project team with commercial advice and dispute resolution
Ensure compliance with contractual and company procedures
Requirements:
Minimum 4+ years' experience within Quantity Surveying, ideally within civil engineering or infrastructure
Strong working knowledge of NEC forms of contract is essential
Proven ability to manage costs on complex projects
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Strong humanship with the right principles & ethics
Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline - Ideally, not essential
Proficient in relevant commercial and cost management software
Desirable:
Experience working on highways, utilities, or large-scale infrastructure projects
Membership or working towards membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS)
