PART TIME APPLICATIONS WELCOME The Role Based at the Borders General Hospital, Melrose, Scottish Borders, you will provide Level 2a Clinical Haematology together with non-malignant haematological care and clinical input into Haematology laboratory services. You would be an active member of the South-East of Scotland Cancer Network (SCAN). Weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings are held by teleconference with colleagues in Edinburgh, West Lothian and Fife. There are agreed investigation and treatment protocols within SCAN. Participation in relevant NCRN and other trials is encouraged. Within the laboratory, the Consultant Haematologist reports all marrow biopsy specimens and reports all significantly abnormal blood films which are referred by the BMS staff. Emphasis is placed on close liaison with BMS staff, hospital colleagues and GPs over abnormal results. There are frequent calls for advice from all sectors of the local health service. The out-of-hours Haematology service is regional, shared with NHS Lothian. This post can be offered with no out of hours on-call commitment or if preferred with participation in the regional on call service subject to mutual agreement. Candidates must hold FRCPath and must also be registered with the General Medical Council in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview. Why work for us? Borders General Hospital is a modern and well-equipped 284 bed DGH serving the rural Borders area in South East Scotland, approximately 36 miles from Edinburgh. There is affordable housing in the local area and good transport links. A relocation package/assistance up to Inland Revenue limits is available for the successful candidate if relocating their main residence to the Scottish Borders area. In a new service development, NHS Borders will offer all newly appointed consultants executive coaching with a trained coach, intended to develop your own leadership style and effective decision making.
