Job Title: Specialist Primary Learning Support Assistant (ALN)
Location: SA18 Area (Carmarthenshire)
Contract: Full-Time / Part-Time, Term Time Only

About the Role
We are looking to recruit a committed and experienced Specialist Primary Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with a range of Additional Learning Needs (ALN) within a primary setting in the SA18 area.
This role requires a practitioner with a strong background in supporting children with complex and multiple needs, including elements of personal care, and the ability to provide consistent, nurturing, and structured support throughout the school day.
Nature of the ALN Needs
The successful candidate will support pupils presenting with a combination of the following needs:
Communication and Interaction
* Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), including pupils who may be non-verbal or have limited communication
* Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
* Use of visual supports, PECS, communication boards, or Makaton
Cognition and Learning
* Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
* Developmental delay
* Pupils working significantly below age-related expectations
* Support with differentiated tasks, overlearning, and structured routines
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
* Anxiety and emotional regulation difficulties
* Attachment needs
* Behaviour that challenges, including dysregulation, withdrawal, or sensory-related behaviours
* Supporting positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
Sensory and Physical Needs
* Sensory processing difficulties (seeking or avoidant behaviours)
* Physical disabilities or medical needs
* Support with mobility where required
* Assistance with personal care, including toileting, hygiene, and changing, delivered with dignity and sensitivity
Neurodevelopmental Conditions
* ADHD / attention and concentration difficulties
* Sensory regulation and movement breaks
* Support with structure, transitions, and task engagement
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual pupil needs
* Implement Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and specialist programmes
* Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and access to learning
* Deliver personal care where required
* Use visual timetables, sensory strategies, and structured routines
* Monitor progress and contribute to review meetings
* Work collaboratively with teachers, the ALNCo, parents, and external professionals (e.g., Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists)
Essential Requirements
* Strong experience supporting primary-aged pupils with complex ALN
* Understanding of autism, communication needs, and SEMH
* Experience delivering personal care in an education or care setting
* Calm, patient, and resilient approach
* Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
* Relevant qualification (Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching and Learning) or equivalent experience
Desirable
* Experience with PECS, Makaton, or other AAC systems
* Team Teach or similar positive behaviour training
* Knowledge of the framework and inclusive practice

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
