East Lothian Council is seeking two motivated and empathetic individuals to join our Revenues Service as Rent Income Advisers. Based at John Muir House in Haddington, you’ll play a key role in supporting Council tenants across East Lothian by helping to manage and recover rental income.
What You’ll Be Doing
1. Delivering an efficient and effective Rent Income service.
2. Minimising rent arrears and maximising income to support high-quality housing services.
3. Assisting with rent charging and collection in line with Council policies and procedures.
4. Taking a preventative approach to arrears, with early intervention to avoid escalation.
5. Working directly with tenants to negotiate repayment plans and identify opportunities to increase household income through welfare benefits and grants.
What We’re Looking For
6. Experience in a customer-focused environment.
7. Ability to work empathetically with individuals facing financial hardship.
8. Desirable: Experience working with vulnerable people and/or in a debt management setting.
9. Minimum SVQ Level 2 qualification (or equivalent), or relevant experience demonstrating equivalent knowledge and skills.
10. Strong communication, organisational, and negotiation skills.
11. Ability to work effectively remotely using Microsoft Office and Council IT systems.

As part of Team deliver an efficient and effective Rent Income Section service to all Council tenants in East Lothian and commit to achieving the lowest level of current and former tenant rent arrears by minimising arrears and maximising income to ensure the Council has the finances to deliver quality Housing services by ensuring customers are fully supported throughout the process and in compliance with the rent recovery process.
