We currently have the following opportunity:

Gaelic Conversation Group Leader (PKC13258)

£14.83 per hour

Various Locations within Perth & Kinross

We are looking for fluent Scottish Gaelic speakers who are enthusiastic about helping groups of adult learners to use their spoken Gaelic together in an informal conversational setting during 90 minute group sessions on a supply basis. Sessions will take place during school term time, and may be ad hoc or semi-regular, but currently no more than 4 x 90 minute sessions per month are planned.

'Using Gaelic'is one of the 3 pillars of the Perth & Kinross Council Gaelic language plan, so it is hugely important to us to provide the support and opportunity for Gaelic learners to do exactly that.

As well as a passion for Gaelic language and culture, the successful candidates will have plenty of creative ideas to inspire and encourage intermediate adult learners in speaking Gaelic and to support them in developing their vocabulary and fluency as well as finding different ways to express themselves using the Gaelic they already have. This is not a teaching post, and post holders will be free to develop their own ideas and resources to encourage conversation within the groups and will be asked to describe some of their ideas at interview.

This post is peripatetic, with conversation groups potentially being held in various community settings within Perth & Kinross according to need. Travelling expenses will be reimbursed as will a period of 30 minutes preparation time prior to each group.

Requirements

Although no formal Gaelic qualification is required, you will be asked to demonstrate your fluency in spoken Gaelic at the interview.

Successful candidates must have:

* Fluency in spoken Scottish Gaelic.
* Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and communicate effectively with others in Gaelic and English.
* A commitment to working towards the concept of inclusion.
* A flexible approach and the ability to work at various times and locations.
* Either a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle or easy access to public transport as this post may require you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.

The Individual

The successful candidates will work directly with groups of intermediate adult Gaelic learners who will be at different stages in their learning journeys. You will need to accommodate these differences and manage to support everyone in the group to use what Gaelic they have in a meaningful way.

The successful candidates will have a genuine interest and commitment to promoting the use of Scottish Gaelic in Perth and Kinross.
