Overview
Health Care Support Worker – Lower Limb Service role at Buy A Boat Now. The post involves working collaboratively under direct and indirect supervision of Registered Nurses and Podiatrists as part of the Lower Limb Therapy Service to deliver gold standard leg ulcer treatments to patients.
Responsibilities
* Deliver leg ulcer management treatments as required, including limb shaping, delegated patient-specific compression therapy, and measuring for compression hosiery/wraps.
* Support yearly well leg assessments for patients under the LLTS leg leg program.
* Work as part of a peripatetic specialist team in Trust-wide outpatient clinics, delivering leg ulcer management treatments including wound bed preparation and compression therapy.
* Prepare clinics at the beginning and end of the working day and comply with infection control protocols.
* Encourage and support patients in self-care to prevent leg ulcer recurrence post-healing with LLTS.
* Accompany RN/Podiatrist to patients' homes to deliver specialist assessments to housebound patients under the care of Community Nursing Services.
* Liaise with the wider healthcare teams (Vascular; Podiatry; Tissue Viability Service; Dermatology; GPs and Practice Nurses).
* Document clearly and concisely in patient notes using Trust wound care documentation; communicate via face-to-face, telephone, and email in a timely manner.
* Communicate with patients and their families, and with other specialist surgical and medical services; Community Nurses; GPs and other relevant Health and Social Care professionals.
* Participate in team meetings and escalate incidents/near misses promptly to the clinic lead, with reporting via Datix.
* Work within the Clinical Governance Framework, including audit, clinical effectiveness and incident reporting; operate within the limits of own competence and responsibility as identified by the accountable professional.
* Educate and support patients/carers in the use of equipment in line with Local Guidelines and within own competence.
* Encourage, enable and support individuals to maintain confidence, independence and participation in social, recreational and community activities.
* Attend mandatory and other appropriate training courses to meet personal development objectives and assist in training others as directed.
Requirements
* Ability to travel efficiently around the Bay; full driving licence and vehicle are important to carry out duties.
