Non-Executive Director (Accountant Member)
ICAEW Regulatory Board (IRB)
Butler Rose has been engaged as the search partner to appoint an exceptional Non-Executive Director to join the ICAEW Regulatory Board (IRB). This is a high-profile opportunity to play a key role in safeguarding the public interest and maintaining the reputation of the accountancy profession.
We are seeking a Partner or equivalent level professional with substantial and current experience in statutory audit, assurance, or audit oversight. You will likely have built your career within a Top 10 professional services firm or an equivalent complex regulatory environment, bringing deep technical expertise alongside a strong understanding of audit quality, governance, and evolving regulatory expectations.
The IRB operates independently to oversee ICAEW's regulatory and conduct functions, ensuring the highest standards of professional competency and behaviour are upheld. As a Board member, you will contribute to setting strategic direction, providing constructive challenge, and supporting the ongoing development of regulatory and disciplinary frameworks in line with the profession's changing landscape.
We are particularly interested in individuals who can demonstrate experience engaging with oversight bodies such as the FRC, alongside exposure to audit regulation, quality assurance, or disciplinary processes. You will bring sound judgement, intellectual rigour, and the confidence to influence at Board level, coupled with a collaborative and measured approach to governance. Prior non-executive or Board experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
The time commitment is up to six Board meetings per year, typically held in person in London or Milton Keynes, alongside involvement in subgroups, training sessions, and occasional additional activities linked to regulatory oversight - we expect 16-20 days in total for time commitment per year. Term of Appointment will be three years with potential for reappointment for a further three years. All Board members receive an annual fee of £10,000 per annum. Expenses are reimbursed in line with ICAEW policy.
This appointment offers a rare opportunity to shape the future of audit regulation within a leading professional body, working alongside senior stakeholders to ensure standards remain robust, transparent, and fit for purpose.
All applications, including those submitted directly to ICAEW, will be managed exclusively by Anthony Tait at Butler Rose.
